About this tool
A text diff compares two blocks of text line by line and highlights which lines were added, removed or changed. It is the go-to tool for reading code changes, reconciling two versions of a config, or checking exactly what edits were made to a document — far faster than eyeballing two windows side by side.
All comparison runs in your browser; the text you paste is never uploaded. That makes it safe to diff config files containing secrets, internal documents or unreleased code. It is ideal for quick, lightweight comparisons that do not warrant a full Git repository.
How to use
- Paste the original (old) text into the left pane.
- Paste the revised (new) text into the right pane.
- The tool compares line by line and highlights added, removed and changed lines.
- Scroll through the result; the red/green markers help you locate each difference at a glance.
- Use the findings to update your source file, or copy the changed sections for your records.
When to use it
- During code review or debugging, compare two versions of a file to see exactly which lines changed.
- Reconcile two config files (e.g. nginx.conf, .env) across different environments.
- Check the differences between two versions of a document, contract or piece of copy.
- Compare two API JSON responses or log dumps to pinpoint field changes.
- Do a quick one-off text comparison in an environment without Git.
FAQ
How is this different from Git diff?
Git diff works on files that already live in a repository with version history. This tool needs no repo — you paste any two blocks of text and compare directly, which suits one-off or cross-source content. The comparison is still line-based and the output reads similarly.
Can it compare Chinese or other non-English text?
Yes. Comparison is line-based and works on any Unicode text — Chinese, Japanese, emoji and more. Each line is compared as a whole, so as long as the line breaks line up, alignment is correct.
Is my content uploaded anywhere?
No. The entire comparison runs locally in your browser; the text is not sent to any server, so it is safe to diff code or configs that contain sensitive information.
