About this tool
This UUID generator creates globally unique identifiers (UUIDs, also called GUIDs) with one click. A UUID is a 128-bit number shaped like xxxxxxxx-xxxx-4xxx-yxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx; the common v4 version is essentially all random, so values generated on different machines at different times almost never collide — ideal for database primary keys, order numbers and device IDs.
The tool generates them locally using the browser's cryptographically secure random source, can produce many at once on demand, and never uploads what it creates.
How to use
- A UUID is generated as soon as the page opens.
- Need more? Set a count and click Generate to produce a batch.
- Click an individual UUID or Copy All to put them on your clipboard.
- Paste them straight into your code, database or document.
When to use it
- Generate collision-free primary keys for database records.
- Assign unique IDs to orders, sessions and uploaded files.
- Create stable keys for list items or components on the front end.
- Quickly make a batch of distinct identifiers for testing.
FAQ
Are UUIDs truly unique?
A v4 UUID has about 122 bits of randomness; the chance of a collision in practice is negligible, though not strictly zero in theory.
Is generation random or deterministic?
The default v4 is almost entirely random; this tool uses the browser's cryptographic random source, so values are unpredictable.
Is a UUID different from a GUID?
They are essentially the same thing; GUID is the name used in Microsoft's ecosystem for a UUID, with the same format.
