About this tool

This tool converts Chinese text between Simplified and Traditional forms. Rather than swapping one character at a time, it uses the OpenCC dictionaries to match whole words, so Simplified 头发 becomes Traditional 頭髮 (hair) instead of the wrong 頭發, because 发 maps to different Traditional characters in different words.

It also handles regional wording: the same Simplified word can be written differently in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Mainland conventions (e.g. 软件 / 軟體 / 軟件 for "software"). Everything runs locally in your browser, so your text is never uploaded — safe even for contracts, manuscripts and other sensitive content.

How to use

  1. Paste or type the Chinese text into the input box.
  2. Pick a direction, e.g. "Simplified → Traditional" or "Traditional → Simplified".
  3. If you need regional wording, choose the target locale (Mainland / Taiwan / Hong Kong).
  4. Read the converted result generated live on the right.
  5. Click copy to take the result with you.

When to use it

  • Publishing Traditional copy, subtitles or e-books for readers in Taiwan or Hong Kong.
  • Archiving or searching Traditional source material in Simplified form.
  • Designers checking that wording reads naturally before making a Traditional poster.
  • Developers maintaining UI strings that ship in both Simplified and Traditional.
  • Students and researchers cross-checking classical texts or quotations across scripts.

FAQ

Why not just replace characters one by one?

Because one Simplified character can map to several Traditional ones depending on the word. Whole-word conversion avoids errors like turning 头发 (hair) into the wrong 頭發.

What is the difference between Taiwan and Hong Kong Traditional?

The character forms are largely the same, but common vocabulary and some character choices differ, e.g. 軟體 vs 軟件 or 滑鼠 vs 鼠標. Picking the right locale makes the text read more naturally.

Is my text uploaded anywhere?

No. Conversion happens locally in your browser with locally loaded dictionaries; your text is never sent to a server.
