About this tool
The Universal File Viewer is an "open anything" tool — one page previews 150+ formats: PDF, Word (docx), Excel (xlsx), PPT, CAD drawings (dwg/dxf), 3D models (glb/gltf/stl), archives (zip/rar/7z/tar), Markdown, source code, eBooks (epub), emails (eml/msg), images, Excalidraw / draw.io diagrams and more. When you hit a file you can't open or don't have software for, just drop it in — no need to install a separate program for every format.
All parsing and rendering happen locally in your browser; files are never uploaded to any server, so contracts, financials and internal drawings stay private. Each format's renderer is loaded on demand, so the first time you open a certain type (especially CAD, 3D or archives) may take a moment.
How to use
- Click or drag a file into the viewer (you can also drop an archive and browse its contents).
- Wait for the matching renderer to load and parse (first open of a format type is slower).
- In the preview, zoom, page through, search text, and switch sheets / pages / archive entries.
- Use the toolbar to download, print, or toggle light / dark theme as needed.
When to use it
- Someone sends a file with an odd extension and you want to see what it is without installing anything.
- You don't want to install Office or a CAD app just to open one docx / xlsx / dwg.
- Quickly view a PDF, spreadsheet or drawing on a phone or a work PC, leaving no trace.
- Peek inside an archive without first unzipping files all over your disk.
- Preview eBooks (epub), email archives (eml/msg), source code or diagrams.
FAQ
Are my files uploaded?
No. Files are parsed and rendered entirely in your browser; nothing is sent to any server, and the content is gone once you close the page.
Which formats are supported?
Over 150, covering documents (PDF/Word/PPT/OFD), spreadsheets (Excel/CSV/ODS), archives (ZIP/RAR/7Z/TAR), CAD & 3D (DWG/DXF/GLB/STL), code and text, images, eBooks (EPUB), emails (EML/MSG), Excalidraw / draw.io diagrams and more — most common office and design files open fine.
Why is the first open of a file type slow?
To keep the page lightweight, each format's renderer is loaded on demand — only when you open that type. CAD, 3D and archive renderers are larger, so the first open is slower; afterward the browser caches them.
How is it different from the Word/Excel viewer or PDF tools?
Those tools are specialized for converting/editing a single format (e.g. docx to Markdown, PDF merge/split); this one is broad — a single entry point to quickly view many formats. Use this to just take a look; use the dedicated tools when you need targeted processing.
