About this tool
This online metronome keeps your timing steady while you practise an instrument, sing or dance. Set the beats per minute (BPM) and the time signature, and it clicks at a fixed tempo with the first beat of each bar accented so you can hear the downbeat. It also includes a countdown timer for timed practice, a Pomodoro session, or cooking.
The clicks are scheduled precisely through the browser's Web Audio engine, so the tempo is more stable than a plain timer and less prone to drift. It runs locally and works the moment you open it — no app to download and no sign-up.
How to use
- Set the tempo (BPM) with the slider or input, or tap "Tap tempo" repeatedly to derive the speed from your own beat.
- Choose a time signature (e.g. 4/4, 3/4) to set beats per bar and which beat is accented.
- Click Start to begin clicking and practise along; click again to stop.
- For timing, switch to the countdown timer, set minutes and seconds, and start.
When to use it
- Keep a steady tempo while practising piano, drums or guitar.
- Align speed when singing or rehearsing in a group.
- A rhythm reference for dance or interval-based workouts.
- Use the countdown for Pomodoro sessions, timed drills or kitchen timing.
FAQ
There is no sound after I click Start — what now?
Browsers only allow audio after a user click. Make sure you have clicked Start and your system volume is not muted; the first click activates audio, after which it plays normally.
Will the tempo drift over time?
Not noticeably. Clicks are scheduled ahead on Web Audio's precise timeline, which is far steadier than triggering sound with a plain timer.
Does it keep clicking in the background or when the screen locks?
Most browsers pause or throttle audio when the tab is backgrounded or the device locks, as a power-saving measure. Keep the page in the foreground while practising.
