⊡ QR Code Scanner

Decode QR from image or camera

🔒 Everything runs locally in your browser. Your data is never uploaded to any server.

About this tool

This QR code scanner turns a QR image, or a live camera frame, back into the data it actually stores — plain text, a URL, WiFi join credentials, a contact card, or a payment link. It runs the open-source jsQR library directly in your browser to locate, error-correct and decode the code, with no server involved at any step.

The key difference from a phone "scan" is that you do not have to reach for your phone, and you do not have to worry about the image being uploaded. Whether someone sent you a screenshot of a QR code or a page shows one whose destination is unclear, you can read the plain text here first and decide whether the link is safe before opening it.

How to use

  1. Pick an input: click to upload an image that contains a QR code (PNG or JPG), or press "Open camera" and aim at a physical code.
  2. The tool automatically locates the three finder patterns in the image, applies error correction and decodes it.
  3. On success the decoded content appears in the result box; if it is a URL it is flagged so you can recognise it.
  4. Click "Copy" to put the content on your clipboard, or open the link manually once you have checked it.
  5. If decoding fails, crop away extra background, use a sharper image, or make the QR code fill more of the frame and try again.

When to use it

  • You received a QR screenshot but have no phone handy and want to read it on your computer.
  • Confirm the real destination URL of an unfamiliar QR code before opening it, to avoid phishing.
  • Photograph a QR on a poster or receipt and extract the link or text inside.
  • Read the SSID and password from a WiFi QR code to type into a device by hand.
  • Debug a QR code you generated by checking that the encoded content is correct.

FAQ

Does scanning upload my image to a server?

No. Decoding happens entirely in your browser via jsQR; the image and camera frames never leave your device and are not stored.

Why do some QR codes fail to decode?

Common causes are blur, glare, a skewed angle, a cropped corner, or the code being too small in the frame. Use a sharper, straighter, complete image and let the code take up more space, then retry.

Can it read barcodes or coloured QR codes?

This tool targets standard QR codes. Plain 1D barcodes are not supported; QR codes with a logo or light tinting usually still decode as long as the finder patterns and data area have enough contrast.

What permission does camera scanning need?

The browser will ask for camera permission, which you must allow. For security, the camera is generally available only on HTTPS pages, and the grant ends when you close the page.
